Desk Based Assessment

A Desk Based Assessment (DBA) is an assessment of the known or potential archaeological resource within, for example, the development or study area. This can be on land, in the inter-tidal zone or in the marine zone. A DBA should include information making it possible to identify the character, extent and archaeological significance of the archaeological features and sites within the specified area. It should also present the local, regional national and international context.

The Desk Based Assessment will be used when producing an Environmental Impact Assessment and defining further protection measures for the heritage present within the study area.

Maritime Archaeology Ltd. will work together with the client to produce an efficient and straightforward document satisfying the needs of the client and the project.
